The store opening denotes a significant investment in Foyleside and will be a welcome boost for commerce on the city streets in general when it officially opens on November 5th.
Founded in 1982 by founder Tim Waterstone, the bookstore brand has grown over decades to become a national chain employing more than 3,000 booksellers in more than 280 stores. Waterstone’s recently opened several new stores in the UK while modernizing others, showing that there is still a healthy appetite among the public for physical bookstores.
A Waterstone’s spokesperson said: “We are delighted to confirm that Waterstone’s will be opening a brand new bookstore this fall, with a team of eight booksellers, in the Foyleside Mall. Being so popular, the center is a great location for our new bookstore, and we plan to open on Friday November 5th, in time for Christmas shopping. We look forward to welcoming customers to our beautiful new boutique and recommending all the brilliant books for book lovers in the city and beyond for discovering.
The retailer’s new branch in Foyleside will provide avid readers with more choices in terms of books, stationery and gifts, especially with schools reopening and the Christmas shopping season just around the corner. Restore a flagship
The mall bookstore has been a priority for the Foyleside management team and bringing a well-known retailer such as Waterstones to the northwest will add to the already attractive mix of more than fifty stores operating in the center.
As a national bookseller, Waterstones offers an ever-growing range of exclusive reader deals and signed editions, as well as an extensive collection of books for sale. Waterstone’s is also proud to have an enthusiastic staff who have a passion for reading and who also know the books they sell. These friendly bookworms will be on hand and more than willing to offer advice to potential clients.
Waterstone’s is expected to fill the store space previously occupied by Topshop / Topman on the center’s third floor, joining some of the High Street’s biggest brands.
Fergal Rafferty, Director of the Foyleside Center said he was delighted to welcome this prestigious retailer to the center. He said: “It is significant that while retail in general has had a difficult year, Foyleside can announce a new store opening.
“There have been store closures, and that has presented opportunities for new retailers. Since March, we have seen Butlers, bPerfect, Frasers, Sports Direct, Game and now Waterstone’s.
“We welcome these new tenants to Foyleside as we approach the most active bargaining period leading up to Christmas and will coincide with the government’s £ 100 local voucher scheme.”
The center expects further announcements in the last quarter of 2021.
