Local brothers are looking to open a new discounted grocery store in Isanti.

At the Isanti City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 5, Director of Community Development Sheila Sellman explained that Nick and Drew Fowler are looking to purchase the current liquor store building, located at 400 W. Dual Blvd. ., to open Nick and Drew’s Discount Foods. shop. Sellman said the purchase price was $ 400,000, which is the appraisal of the building and the land.

After discussion, the board approved the purchase contract with Nick and Drew Enterprises. The sale is conditional on the city purchasing a new location for the police department, which the city is currently working on. Sellman said the expected closing date was December 17.

Sellman said if the sale goes through and the buyer wishes to purchase some of the items currently in the liquor store, a separate deal will be worked out.

The Town of Isanti will open its new liquor store in November, just south of Coborn’s on the east side of Highway 65. In September, the Town of Isanti put its current liquor store up for sale.

The Fowlers grew up in the Isanti area and graduated from Cambridge-Isanti High School. They currently own Nick and Drew’s Discount Foods in Lindstrom, which they opened in 2017.

Rockstad and Co. Relics and Goods

Rockstad and Co. Relics and Wares are considering finding a new home in Isanti.

Sellman explained that the city is working with the owner of Rockstad and Co. Relics and Wares, which is currently located at 401 E. Dual Blvd. and is looking to move.

“Instead of leaving, I spoke with the applicant to stay here and possibly build a new building at 102 Dahlin,” Sellman said.

After discussion, the board approved a purchase agreement and a corporate grant agreement for Rockstad and Co. Relics and Wares to purchase 102 Dahlin Ave. NE, Isanti, for $ 1.

City Council Member Steve Lundeen noted that by authorizing the sale of the property, the property will revert to the city’s tax rolls.

“Keep in mind that they’re renting a property now, so it’s not like their own property and paying taxes on it,” Lundeen said. “We’re going to get our taxes on this property now. “

In 2016, the city received the site at 102 Dahlin Ave. NE by donation and demolished the building. The cost of demolition was $ 25,950. The site is 6,750 square feet in size and is zoned B-1 downtown. Sellman said general retailing is an authorized use for the location.

Sellman said owner Amy Rockstad is proposing to build a multi-tenant space with her retail and DIY studio in one part and rent out the other spaces. The boutique hosts classes / workshops, pop-up shops and other events.

“It would be a great continuation of the downtown stores and add more events and traffic to the area,” Sellman noted.

In Rockstad’s letter to the city, she wrote that the perfect time to open in the new location would be summer 2022.

“My intention for this lot would be to create a lovely place for the community to shop and have the opportunity to learn something new,” Rockstad wrote in his letter to the city.
