This week, Berlin wins its first Aldi on Thursday, December 16, and the East Coast sees its fourth installment of the discount grocery chain.

What does Aldi sell?

At its core, Aldi’s purpose is not too different from any other grocery store. The Germany-based chain sells produce, meat, seafood, dairy, eggs, cold cuts, frozen foods, baked goods and more.

Aldi stores don’t have deli meats, but the meats and cheeses in its deli section are fresh.

Does Aldi offer famous brands?

Over 90% of Aldi products are Aldi exclusive brands. Aldi often offers cheaper versions of nationally known products.

On its website, the chain said it could carry a national brand if it was unable to “source an exclusive branded product that meets or exceeds the quality and taste of the national brand.”

Does Aldi sell alcohol?

Some Aldi stores sell alcohol, but the Berlin store does not, according to a public relations representative.

What’s new with Aldi’s caddies?

Aldi buyers like to save money, just like Aldi.

To use an Aldi shopping cart, buyers must insert a quarter into a slot to unlock the cart. When buyers have finished using the basket, the quarter will be released once the basket is returned to the basket area.

Aldi uses this system to avoid paying workers to return the carts to the store.

Do I have to bring reusable bags?

Yes, Aldi charges 10 cents per bag. If you need reusable bags, the store usually sells them.

Do I need a subscription to buy from Aldi?

No, Aldi does not offer subscriptions or rewards programs.

Does Aldi offer curbside pickup or delivery?
